Job Summary
The Finance & Operations Director is responsible for overseeing the Finance & Operations department and all financial and operational aspects of GSCN including budget development, accounting practices, taxes and audits, employee payroll, employee benefits (PTO, insurance, 401k), policies and procedures, and labor law compliance.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a leader by motivating, guiding, developing, and providing feedback and recognition to direct reports.
- Develop fiscal year budgets in collaboration with the Executive Director and Associate Director.
- Lead the accounting processes by identifying and recording transactions, entering and posting in accounting software, and generating financial statements.
- Verify financial transactions by reconciling all bank statements, detailing accounts receivable and accounts payable, maintaining payroll register, maintaining other recorded asset and liability transactions needed for auditing documents.
- Guide invoice preparation and oversee account receivables and accounts payables.
- Oversee maintenance of timesheet program and use reports for project time allocation.
- Submit payroll through a payroll provider twice per month; ensure and confirm that payroll taxes are filed.
- Serve as point of contact for Auditors to review internal controls; complete audit worksheets for financial audits; assist in preparation and review tax filings.
- Present financial information at Board of Director meetings and Finance and Audit Committee meetings.
- Oversee GSCN’s 401k plan by maintaining relationships with Plan Administrator and Account Manager; make deposits for employee contributions; and ensure the Plan meets legal requirements to keep plan in compliance.
- Lead the evaluation of employee insurance benefits through communication with insurance brokers and relay information to employees.
- Maintain personnel records; salary and benefits spreadsheet to determine and forecast staffing expenses.
- Oversee updates of GSCN’s Team Operating Model and Employee Handbook on a regular basis.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal labor laws by completing appropriate new hire paperwork.
- Guide GSCN’s electronic filing system for business related documents.
- Oversee facility management, as well as software purchases, maintaining licenses, technology inventory, and video conferencing systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- Five years or more of experience performing finance and/or accounting related tasks; preferably in a non-profit setting.
- Experience with employee compensation and benefits administration including payroll, 401k, and health insurance.
- Experience working with ADP, Abilia’s MIP Fund Accounting, and/or ability to learn new tools quickly.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- High level of attention to detail and ability to problem solve.
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of discretion and maintain confidential information.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
